SR-502/503 Congestion Relief Project: Traffic revisions ahead

DEC 1 - TIMELINE UPDATE:  Contractor Clark & Sons Excavating was out today installing the concrete barriers on SR-503 between Main St and Onsdorff Blvd.  Their schedule is such that they will not be working on the project this weekend, so the opening of 5th Way, just north of Fred Meyer, will likely take place on Monday, Dec 4.  WSDOT is scheduled to remove the 12th Ave signal on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning between the hours of 10pm and 5am.  The signal removal and the placement of a centerline barrier on Main St. will restrict traffic on 12th Ave to right-in and right-out only.

Two major traffic revisions related to Battle Ground’s SR-502/503 Congestion Relief Project - Phase 1 are projected to occur the first week of December.

The revisions will affect access to and from the Battle Ground Fred Meyer shopping area located at the northwest corner of SR-502/503:

Projected for December 4/5:    NW 5th Way to open for use.
NW 5th Way, just north of Fred Meyer, has been extended east to connect to SR-503.  The new roadway will provide right-in and right-out access to and from the shopping area.  Already constructed, the road will not open for use until concrete barriers are placed along the centerline of SR-503.

Projected for December 5/6:    The removal of the NW 12th Ave/Main St signal with a barrier installed on Main St to restrict traffic on 12th Ave to right-in and right-out only.
This revision will not take place until after NW 5th Way opens.  Removal of the signal and installation of the barrier (a temporary barrier until a permanent median is constructed) will restrict traffic on 12th Ave to right-in and right-out access only.

It is important to recognize that these are projected dates and that variations in weather, and contractor/sub-contractor and WSDOT schedules may affect them.  Updates, as they occur, will be posted to the city’s Facebook page.

The traffic revisions will affect how motorists access and exit from the Fred Meyer Shopping area.  See the Congestion Relief Project page for maps intended to assist motorists in planning for the revisions.  Large map displays are also available at both entrances to the Battle Ground Fred Meyer and smaller versions have been made available to businesses located in the shopping area.
