Drug Take-Back Day returns to the Battle Ground Police Department on Saturday, April 28

The Battle Ground Police Department, in partnership with the Ridgefield and La Center Police Departments, Prevent Together: Battle Ground Prevention Alliance, and La Center United, is hosting Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 28.   Anyone with expired or unneeded may dispose of them safely and free of charge at the Battle Ground Police Station located at 507 SW 1st Street in Battle Ground between the hours of 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Appropriate disposal of expired or unneeded prescription and over-the-counter drugs helps keep homes and the community safe by reducing accidents, thefts, and the misuse and abuse of medications.

The most common drugs misused by teens and adults come from family and friends’ home medicine cabinets.  About 70% of people who abuse prescription drugs obtain them from family and friends and 80% of heroin users start by using pain medications prescribed to them or someone they know.

Drug disposal is also an environmental concern.  Unused medications should never be flushed down the toilet or put in the trash; improperly disposed of medications can easily contaminate water systems.

All unwanted medications, prescription or over-the-counter, in pill, liquid or inhaler form will be accepted free of charge.  Medications may remain in original containers, with labels attached; medications not in original container will be accepted as well.  Organizers ask that lids are tight on liquid medications and that those participating refrain from including unrelated recycling or garbage with disposed medications.

This year, the Battle Ground Police Department site will not accept sharps and syringes.  The Kaiser Permanente Cascade Park site is the only Drug Take-Back Day location in Clark and Skamania County that will accept sharps and syringes.   See details for all Clark and Skamania County Drug Take-Back Day locations.
