Councilmember Michael Ciraulo was elected Mayor and Councilmember Alex Reinhold Deputy Mayor by their fellow councilmembers at the January 7th Council Meeting.

The City Council elects a Mayor and Deputy Mayor each January of every other year. Mayor Ciraulo and Deputy Mayor Reinhold will serve in their respective roles through December 2009.

Mayor Ciraulo thanked the Council for their support saying "I'm honored that my fellow council members have chosen me for this position. Battle Ground has grown to be a regional player in Southwest Washington and I desire to continue to pursue regional partnerships that benefit not only the citizens of our city but also those of the greater area. Battle Ground is a great place to live and I believe the council wants to maintain the small town atmosphere while providing the amenities and services that our citizens demand.

We have a great team on council; I value the differing perspectives and look forward to discussing and debating issues with my fellow councilors over the coming months and years as we move the City forward. With the support of the outstanding city staff that we have, I know there are no challenges ahead that we can not tackle."

Council also welcomed new Councilmember Paul Zandamela who began his 4-year term on January 1st of this year.
