Department Goals and Accomplishments
- Promote a safe and secure community by providing quality public safety services while incorporating the department values: integrity, service and respect.
- The department implemented a new canine program and selected Officer Chris Crouch as the new canine handler. Officer Crouch and his canine, Haulf, completed the certification process and training, which instructed both the handler and canine in tracking, obedience, protection, drug detection and control. The canine will conduct crime scene and area searches for persons and property, building sweeps, drug detection activities and will assist other agencies.
- The February 2007 bomb/sniper incident that occurred at Battle Ground schools allowed the department to fully utilize the City's emergency operations, including the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). EOC operations ran smoothly as well as communications with other emergency services personnel.
- Lieutenant Roy Butler graduated from the FBI National Academy, a 3-month Academy for U.S. and international law enforcement leaders. Lt. Butler is the first officer from the department to attend the FBI National Academy.
- All sworn personnel completed intermediate and advanced level training in Incident Command System (ICS) bringing the department in compliance with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) requirements.
- Five officers received their bike patrol certification from the Law Enforcement Bike Association. Currently, there are 10 officers certified for bike patrol. The department also acquired two new Trek mountain bikes, bringing the total up to six bikes.
- The department provided security and staffed information booths at National Night Out, Harvest Days and the Skate Park Grand Opening.
- Chief McDaniel hosted quarterly meetings with citizens from the business community and area neighborhoods to discuss community concerns and improve awareness of department operations.
