Project overview:
The City of Battle Ground is planning on making some significant investments in our parks system beginning in 2006 and continuing in future years.
In late 2002, the City Council decided that enhancement and development of parks, open spaces, and recreational facilities was critical to serving our community's growing population and diverse needs. The City Council assembled a Parks Improvement Committee (PIC) to define a parks improvement program, identify potential costs of such a program as well as various financing scenarios. The PIC was comprised of citizens from various organizations and interest groups throughout the community. The PIC was tasked with working closely with a consultant team to develop the Parks Improvement Plan which assessed community needs and priorities related to parks, recreation and open space areas within the city limits.
The Parks Improvement Plan developed by the PIC was based on broad and comprehensive community involvement. The primary focus of the Plan was 117 acres of the city's park land including Central, Fairgrounds, Florence Robison, Hidden Glen and Kiwanis Parks, as well as the 80 acres of the Battle Ground Sports Complex.
This year the City of Battle Ground will initiate implementation of the Parks Improvement Plan that was developed by the PIC. Implementation will begin by targeting development of Kiwanis Park, Fairgrounds Park and the Battle Ground Sports Complex. Ultimately, these facilities will serve as marquee elements in our community.
