Last week, U.S. Senator Patty Murray included $500,000 for the City of Battle Ground's North Parkway Project in a Senate spending bill. The funding was included in the Transportation and Housing Appropriations bill which was passed out of the full Senate Appropriations Committee today and will now go to the full Senate for consideration.
North Parkway, between Onsdorff Boulevard and North 6th Street, is a roadway badly in need of repair as it links neighborhoods to schools and the downtown core area. Funding provided by Senator Murray will complete the construction of this important transportation and safety improvement project; completion is scheduled for summer of 2009.
The half-mile improvements will add sidewalks, bicycle lanes, median islands, turn lanes and street lighting. The project will significantly improve safety for school children, school buses, vehicles and pedestrians who use this busy roadway.
"We are so grateful to Senator Murray for securing funds for the North Parkway Project," said Battle Ground Mayor Michael Ciraulo. "This critical transportation and safety project will improve access to downtown Battle Ground and provide school children with sidewalks and other improvements to ensure a safe route to school. Senator Murray's help in securing federal funds for this project will directly benefit our community for years to come."
