[ARCHIVED] East Main Street structure to be brought down in live fire training

A live fire training exercise will be conducted by Clark County Fire & Rescue (CCFR) at a City of Battle Ground-owned structure located at 801 East Main Street in Battle Ground. The exercise will take place on Thursday April 10th and is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am and be completed by approximately 3:00 pm.

Two sections of roadway will be closed that day starting at approximately 8:30 am: East Main St. between SE Grace and SE Clark Avenues, and NE Grace Ave. between East Main St. and NE 1st St. A short detour will guide motorists around the closure. (A detour map is available by selecting the Detour link below.)

The building, which most recently housed Galeotti’s restaurant, was placed on the market after the restaurant closed. The City purchased the building as part of the Grace Avenue Improvement Project – Phase II which will align the currently offset intersection of Grace Ave. and Main St.

Benefits of the live fire training are two-fold. Fire agencies are required by law to provide live fire training; the April 10th burn will help CCFR meet the requirement while providing firefighters with important real-life training in a commercial setting. Secondly, the cost of the post-fire demolition and clean-up is just 25% of what a full demolition would cost.

For more information about the project, please contact City of Battle Ground Public Works Director Scott Sawyer at 360-342-5075 or by email at scott.sawyer@cityofbg.org.
