[ARCHIVED] Fallen Leaves - Keeping Storm Drains Clear

Fallen Leaves - Keeping Storm Drains Clear

With the change in season and wet weather around the corner, residents are reminded to properly dispose of fallen leaves.

One of the most common causes of street flooding is fallen leaves clogging storm drains. Prevent flooding problems in your neighborhood by disposing of leaves and yard waste properly and promptly.

  • Never blow or rake leaves onto the street; street sweepers are not equipped to pick up piles of leaves.
  • Mow over your leaves to create finely chopped mulch and then simply leave them there. It’s one less chore you need to do and your lawn will love the mulch!
  • A compost bin is a great place for leaves. Come spring, your garden will be thankful for the fertile soil.
  • If you see a storm drain that is clogged and can clear it without placing yourself in danger, please remove the leaves. Use a rake to help you reach the leaves without entering the street.
  • Leaves and yard waste can be properly disposed of at the Clark County Transfer Station in the Orchards area. Select the link below for location and information.

We appreciate your efforts and so will your neighbors! If you see a storm drain not working properly, please call the City’s Public Works Department at 360-342-5350.
