[ARCHIVED] Extreme Weather Causes Damage in Battle Ground

An area in the southeast quadrant of City of Battle Ground experienced extreme weather this morning, possibly a tornado.

The City’s Emergency Operations Center was activated and emergency crews including police, fire, and public works are on scene to respond and assess damage.

No injuries have been reported. 36 homes have been reported as damaged. Two commercial businesses, Real Deal Home Décor and IQ Food Market, were damaged heavily, assessed by city building officials, were evacuated and closed.

Crews continue to work on cleaning up debris. South Parkway between Rasmussen and Eaton remains closed.

If you are in the affected area please watch for falling branches which were dislodged and could continue to fall.

Representatives of the National Weather Service were on the ground today to assess and determine what type of weather event it was.

We ask that you stay away from the area if you are not a resident of or have urgent business in the area.

Residents of the affected area who may need Red Cross services may contact them at 1-888-680-1455.

Mayor Shane Bowman thanks emergency responders, city crews, partner agencies and volunteers who assisted in the response and with the continuing to work to clean up the area.
