At the City of Battle Ground, employees are the primary means of providing service to citizens. As a relatively small yet growing city, we continually strive to be efficient and improve the delivery of services. That means minimal staffing with employees who are diverse in their skill set, who are committed to public service, and who can take on several roles.
Battle Ground’s Deputy City Clerk, Tamara Gunter, exemplifies this standard, and was recently recognized by the Washington Municipal Clerk’s Association with the 2019 President’s Award of Distinction for outstanding service to the City of Battle Ground.
Last year, in addition to her regular duties as Deputy City Clerk (records management, administration of employee benefit and wellness programs, and support of recruitment and labor relations) Ms. Gunter was suddenly tasked with managing the Parks & Recreation Department. New and additional responsibilities included managing the Battle Ground Community Center, Senior Center, facility rentals, and community events. For a period of six months, Ms. Gunter successfully managed her regular duties as well as her additional responsibilities, and she did so with distinction.
The WMCA President’s Award of Distinction recognizes Ms. Gunter’s leadership and commitment to public service, her administrative and communications skills, as well her integrity and her consistent dependability.
Ms. Gunter has served the city of Battle Ground since 2008. She has earned the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk and is working toward a Human Resources Certified Labor Relations Professional Certification. She is well liked and respected by colleagues and by the public she serves.
