Members of the board are volunteers who support city parks and recreation programs by fostering public interest in events and activities, participating in programs, and soliciting participation from community organizations and the general public. The board also serves in an advisory capacity, making recommendations to the city council regarding the development and operations of public parks, playgrounds and recreational facilities.
The board consists of 7 positions, including one youth position. Positions are open to city residents, property owners and business owners within the city's urban growth area. The term of service is 3 years.
The youth position is filled by a person between the ages of fourteen and eighteen who resides in the city’s urban growth boundary or who attends school within the Battle Ground School District. The term of office for the youth position is 2 years with the period of service to run from September of one year through June of the second year.
Board members are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the city council. Members serve as volunteers, without compensation.
Members meet monthly with city staff and participate in Parks & Recreation activities throughout the year.
